Laojun Cave Taoist Temple covers more than 300 acres and features over 30 sculptures, many of which are carved directly into the mountain’s rock faces. The temple is built following the structure of the Taoist character “玄,” with the octagonal pavilion atop the temple’s peak representing the upper part of this character.

Steps for Incense Offering
- Light the Candle: First, borrow fire from the candle stand to light your own candle (make sure to remove the plastic wrap). Place both candles into the same hole in the candle stand. You do not need to bow to the candle; only incense is offered during the prayers.
- Light the Incense: Hold the incense horizontally and light it using the candle flame. The horizontal position symbolizes safety and peace. If the incense catches fire, gently shake it to extinguish the flame.
- Bow and Pray: Stand facing the Three Pure Ones Hall and bow three times. Only the direction of the main hall requires bowing—there is no need to bow towards the four directions. Hold the incense upright in your right hand, with your left hand covering your right. Bring the incense to the level of your mouth or nose, and then bow. During your bow, silently focus on your wish, as the incense carries your prayers to the heavens.
- Place the Incense: Place the incense in the incense holder, starting with the middle, then moving to the right and left in that order.
- Burn Paper: If your fortune slip is particularly bad, you can burn it by using the fire available at the incense stand. This serves as a way to let go of negative outcomes.

Visitors to Laojun Cave Taoist Temple can enjoy vegetarian meals offered by the temple. The set meal includes two dishes and tofu pudding for 28 RMB per person. If you prefer, you can order additional items a la carte, but prices tend to be a bit higher – about 45 RMB per person on average.
