Hiking Route
Meilin Parking Lot → Old Railway Tracks: Start your journey from Meilin Parking Lot, walking towards the old railway tracks. This section is marked by lush greenery and clear, fresh air, creating a peaceful atmosphere. As you walk along the tracks, you’ll feel as though you’ve entered a Studio Ghibli-style world, with sunlight filtering through the leaves and casting shadows on the old rails.
The Small Railway was originally a transport railway for a special steel factory. Spanning 9 kilometers, the railway was abandoned but has since been renovated and transformed into a popular hiking trail for local residents, offering a scenic and peaceful place to relax and enjoy nature.
Si·Yi Library Station: The first major stop along the way, this outdoor library is one of the highlights of the hike. Its design is both creative and functional, offering a quiet space to read while surrounded by nature. This spot, along with several other literary-themed stations, makes for perfect photo opportunities, whether it’s a sunny day or a rainy one.
Zhazidong Tunnel & Zhazidong Prison Ruins: The Zhazidong Tunnel (渣滓洞隧道) is one of the most iconic points of the route, with a mysterious and romantic atmosphere. Spanning 300 meters, this tunnel has been used as a filming location for various movies and is an excellent spot for photos at dusk when the lights inside the tunnel glow. Not far from here are the Zhazidong Prison Ruins, adding a historical touch to your journey.
Gele Mountain Forest Park: After exploring the tunnel, continue uphill towards the Gele Mountain Forest Park (歌乐山森林公园). Here, you can enjoy fresh air and breathtaking views of the surrounding forest. Make sure to set aside enough time to explore and take in the natural beauty of the area. The park offers a peaceful retreat from the bustle of the city.
Shijingpo Colorful Houses: The Shijingpo Colorful Houses (石井坡彩色房子) are newly renovated old houses in the community. With their pastel-colored exteriors, they resemble something out of a fairy tale. This area is especially beautiful when the sun is shining, making it a perfect place for photography. Adjacent to the colorful houses is an art park, making it an ideal spot for family-friendly activities.
Return Trip: After completing the loop, head back to Shijingpo Station (石井坡站) on Line 1 of the Chongqing Metro for your return journey.
